My Dog Reading Comprehension Packet
The story is a fiction narrative based upon a child’s desire to have a pet, in this case, a dog. There are two formats for the story. The first format is 3 pages and uses illustrations in an attempt to create an emotional response to the characters in the story. The second format is 1 page and uses minimal graphics and no color for ease of printing if desired. Rhyming was used when possible to create a sense of familiar text style and form for young readers. At one time or another, most children wish for a pet or have had experiences with one in their own home or in the homes of friends or extended family. This common experience is used as a basis for some of the activities found in this packet.
Beach Reading Comprehension Packet
The author uses the writing technique of taking a ‘small moment’ from every day life as a basis for the short story written on a first grade level. Students may have the same experiences as the author depending upon where they live or even vacations that they have taken with their families.
